Solar electricity production started in Chernobyl

After the nuclear disaster in 1986, the production of electricity from the sun began at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant site, which was completely deactivated in 2000.

The 1 MW project, which was realized in cooperation with the Ukrainian energy company Rodina and the German Enerparc AG, was the 4th of the power plant, which exploded on April 26, 1986. it is located 100 meters from the site of the reactor.

According to the statement made on the subject, the companies aim to increase the installed capacity of the Solar Chernobyl project, which they consider to be a social responsibility project, to 100 MW.

In addition, after the income from the power plant's electricity production covers the investment cost of the project, the income will be transferred to the Green Chernobyl Endowment Fund, which will be created. The fund will also support the education of talented Ukrainian students who want to work in green energy projects and green energy initiatives aimed at the public in the Kiev region.

The project, which started electricity production on July 1, 2018, will benefit from the purchase guarantee applied by the Ukrainian government as 15 euro-cents per kilowatt-hour for solar energy investments, which will be activated by 2019.
